We regularly advise clients on a wide range of maritime regulatory issues including the registration of ships in Ireland and other issues arising under the Mercantile Marine Acts and marine related legislation.


Recent Highlights

o  Advising the Health and Safety Authority on new code of practice for safety of dockworkers/investigation of marine casualties.

o  Advising private terminal on application of ISPS Code and entitlement of ITF to attend on board vessels in terminal.

o  Acting for German flag authority and classification society on proceedings in Ireland for misrepresentation of stability characteristics of a fishing vessel to include advice on application to contest jurisdiction of Irish courts under EC regulation 44/2001.

o  Acting for a private client in relation to on-going proceedings against the State for alleged sustained discriminatory actions taken over a period of many years by officers of the Marine Survey Office.

o  Acting for international operator in relation to arguments under EU and Irish law on anti-competitive practices.

o  Advising state shipping company on Marine investigation bodies in Ireland and their powers in event of casualties.

o  Advising port on dredging responsibilities and pilotage liability issues.
